Under 5
Little ones do best with Magic Kingdom's classic rides, the animals at Animal Kingdom and Legoland's toddler zones. Keep days short, build in pool time back at the house, and do not try to see everything — a morning at a park plus an afternoon nap beats a full day of meltdowns.
Ages 5 to 9
The sweet spot for the parks — tall enough for most rides, young enough to be wide-eyed at the characters. EPCOT, Magic Kingdom and Universal's Harry Potter world all land well, as do SeaWorld's shows and interactive areas.
Ages 10 to 14
Bigger coasters come into play — Universal's Islands of Adventure and the newer attractions are a hit, as is SeaWorld for thrills. Give this age some say in the itinerary and let them navigate with the park apps; they will love the responsibility.
Teenagers
Universal, the water parks and off-park activities — go-karting, top-golf, airboat rides and the outlet malls — keep teenagers happy. A private pool and fast Wi-Fi back at the house matter more than you would think for the downtime between big days out.
Rainy day options
Florida storms are usually short and dramatic. Indoors there are aquariums, ICON Park on International Drive, trampoline and adventure parks, and the outlet malls — or simply a film and the games console back at the villa. Most parks stay open through rain, and the queues thin out when it falls.
Free things to do
Disney Springs and Universal CityWalk are free to wander, with street performers and window-shopping. Add the grounds of the resort hotels, Lake Eola in downtown Orlando, and the beaches an hour away on either coast. A pool day at the house costs nothing and is often the highlight for younger kids.
A realistic daily budget
Plan for roughly $110–160 per person on a park day once tickets, food and a souvenir are counted, and far less on a pool or beach day. Cooking a few meals in the villa kitchen, packing park snacks and mixing paid days with free ones keeps a week affordable for a family.
